About the Creators

Dr. Brian Matthys is a faith-filled dad, husband, inventor, board-certified dermatologist of 20 years, and a recovering lifeguard.

Brian’s work as a dermatologist drives his passion for skin education and sun protection. His love of technology inspired him to launch his company eclipse Rx® and its first product, burūv™, the fitness tracker for your skin.

Brian created the character of Dermboy as an entertaining way to teach young children about the risks of sun exposure. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, traveling, and playing the guitar.

Scott Emmons is a children’s writer and song lyricist best known for his work on the hit Netflix series “Ask the StoryBots.” His books include many StoryBots titles as well as the nutrition fable “Hugo Makes a Change,” written in collaboration with illustrator Mauro Gatti. He founded Brainytops Press in 2022 with the goal of providing fun, playful, imaginative ways for kids to develop their cognitive skills and explore their creativity.

Scott lives in the Kansas City area with his wife Erika, their son Oscar, and their two black cats, Hector and Alex.

Renée Andriani grew up in Connecticut and attended Rhode Island School of Design. After college, she moved to Kansas City where she illustrates greeting cards and children's books. She’s also a graphic recorder, collaborating with organizations and their teams to create 'visual stories' that reflect meetings, brainstorms and published content.

Renee has illustrated many books for children, published by Scholastic, HarperCollins, MB Publishing, Dutton Children's Books, Simon & Schuster, Puffin Books, and Little Brown & Company. She’s also illustrated medical subjects—in an approachable and friendly way!—for clients such as Kansas Health Institute, NAPCRG (North American Primary Care Research Group), and Kansas University Medical Center.

Besides being a professional doodler, she digs hanging out with her kids and dogs, hiking, relaxing by campfires, and sipping really good coffee.
